Sticker Beach Scene!

Day 3 of our week. Our theme this week is the Beach. The letter of the week is E and the number of the week is 6.

Project - Sticker Beach Scene. I used brown construction paper for the beach, by cutting a curvy piece to fit the bottom of the blue construction paper. Then, I cut curvy strips of dark blue construction paper for the water. I cut cloud shapes out of white construction paper. Connor and Lauren glued the shapes onto the light blue construction paper to make a beach. Next, they used the sand castle stickers to make a beach scene. I found the stickers for $1 at Wal-Mart. They also added fish, shark, crab . . . stickers to the water. They had a great time adding stickers to their beach. Materials Needed - light blue, dark blue, brown, white construction paper, beach scene stickers, fish, sea life stickers, glue stick, scissors.

Day 3 of our week - Our theme this week is zoo/safari. The letter of the week is D, d and the number of the week is 7.

After the paint was dry, Connor and Lauren cut 1 inch strips on the outer orange part of the plate. (the lion's mane) Then, they glued on googly eyes and used a black marker to draw a nose and mouth. This project could be made into a mask by cutting holes for eyes. Materials needed - paper plate, orange and yellow paint, paint brush, googly eyes, black marker, scissors

Egg Carton Elephants
Project- Egg Carton Elephants - I found this project on the website http://www.daniellesplace.com/html/ElephantCrafts.html The website provides wonderful directions and pictures. It even provided a template for the elephant head! This project really fit in nicely with our zoo/safari theme and it was really easy to do. Connor and Lauren with their Turtles! - Smile Lauren :)

Project - Egg Carton Turtle - I found inspiration for this project this morning when I used the last egg to make waffles. I was going to throw away the egg carton when I thought it would make great turtle shells. First, I cut out two individual parts of the egg carton (where each egg sits) Then, Connor and Lauren painted their carton/shell green. Then they sprinkled green glitter onto the wet paint and we let the paint and glitter dry. After the shells were dry, I cut an oval head, 4 skinny oval legs and a triangle tail out of light brown foam. Connor and Lauren helped me hot glue the body parts to the underside of the shell. At the end they glued on googly eyes! Materials Needed - egg carton, green paint, green glitter, hotglue or craft glue, scissors, brown foam and googly eyes

Sponge Bob Kleenex Box!

Sponge Bob Kleenex Box

Project - Sponge Bob Kleenex Box. A couple of weeks ago, I came down the stairs with an empty Kleenex box. I was going to recycle the Kleenex box, but Connor got to it first. He grabbed it out of my hands and said, "Don't throw this away, let's make it into Sponge Bob!" So, we started the Sponge Bob Kleenex box project. First, Connor painted the whole box yellow. Then the box sat, and sat and sat for the last few weeks. We just haven't had time to finish our project until today! I don't have Lauren on Wednesday's and we don't do school on Wednesday's either, so today was a perfect day to finish our project. Of course, I had to find a picture of Sponge Bob, so I could begin the project and do it correctly! First, I cut a strip of brown and white paper for Sponge Bob's pants and shirt. Then, I drew a tie on red paper and cut it out. Connor glued the pants, shirt and tie onto the bottom 1/2 of the box. (We put the hole side down, so it would act as a puppet for Connor). Next, I drew a mouth on the box, and cut a tongue for the mouth on red paper along with 2 teeth on white paper. Connor glued the tongue and teeth onto the box. Then, I cut out two circles for eyes and Connor drew the inner circles for the eyes and glued them onto the box. I added the nose, eyebrows and cheeks with permanent black and red markers. Finally, I constructed hands and feet out of yellow pipe cleaners. I just bent and shaped them into hands and feet. I added black pipe cleaner for his shoes, and white, red and blue pipe cleaners for Sponge Bob's socks! Connor wanted every last detail!! I also drew Sponge Bob's collar and belt with black permanent marker. Materials needed - tall Kleenex box, yellow paint, paintbrush, brown, white, red construction paper, scissors, craft glue, black, red permanent markers, yellow, black, red, blue pipe cleaners.
Here's Sponge Bob!!!
Connor loves him. He set him up on our shelf in the living room and told me it was our new decoration. We even had to include Sponge Bob in our prayers at bedtime!!!

Project - Pocket Plate Frog - I found the idea for this project on the website, http://www.dltk-kids.com/animals/mfrogpouch.html I cut a Styrofoam plate in half and stapled it to the back side of another Styrofoam plate. Then Connor painted the plates and we let them dry. I traced the eye, legs and tongue template (provided by the website) onto green, white and red construction paper. Connor glued the inner (white) eyes onto the green circles and used a black marker to draw the inner eyes. After, the plates were dried, he glued the legs, eyes and tongue onto the plates to make a frog. *I stapled the bottom legs to the back side of the plate instead of using glue. The end project has a pocket or pouch. Connor is really having fun placing his "paper treasures" into the pouch! Materials needed - 1 full Styrofoam plate, 1 Styrofoam plate cut in half, green paint, paintbrush, green, red, white construction paper, black marker, stapler, craft glue, scissors, leg, tongue, eye templates (from the website, or draw your own).

Number Practice
Project - Paper Frog Puppets!
I found the idea for this project from the website http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/frog First, I folded a green piece of construction into thirds, to form a long rectangle. Then, I folded the long rectangle into fourths, to form a w. The W is the frog! Then, Connor and Lauren glued googly eyes onto the top fourth and added the red tongue I had cut out from red construction paper. All of the directions are on the above website. This is a very simple craft to do, with very little prep work. It was a perfect project for today - we were at a birthday party all morning, so we had to do our "school" after nap time!!
Materials Needed - green construction paper, red construction paper, googly eyes, glue, scissors.
