Paper Bowl Crab

Paint a bowl red

Paint 4 clothespins red

Cut out 8 long, skinny, rectangles for the legs

Fold each leg in half

Attach 4 legs to each side of the bow - we used tape

Clip the clothespins on the bowl

Hot glue 2, small Styrofoam balls on the top front of the bowl - for eyes

Color a black circle on each ball with permanent marker

Paper Starfish

Trace a starfish pattern onto brown paper or cardstock

Cut the starfish out

Glue the starfish to blue cardstock

Glue on googly eyes

Draw a mouth

Decorate with ocean/sea life stickers

                                
 

 Here is a similar project we did with Starfish in June of 2009! 

 Awe . . . Connor and Lauren were so little!!!

 I found the main idea for this project on the website www.freekidcrafts.com/texturedstarfish.html I printed the starfish template off of the site and traced it onto card stock/tag board. Connor and Lauren then chose a paint color and painted their starfish. (Connor of course chose blue as his color, and Lauren chose purple). After, they had painted the starfish, we went outside to our sandbox and Connor and Lauren sprinkled (dumped!) sand onto their starfish. We let the project dry. Finally, they glued their starfish onto a brown piece of card stock and decorated the card stock with ocean theme stickers! (Blue card stock or any color would look good too).

 

Paper Bowl Jellyfish

Paint a paper bowl - any color

Let dry - glue on googly eyes

Tape pieces of ribbon to the inside of the bowl, so the string dangles down from the bowl

 

Handprint Crab

Cut a "beach" from brown or tan construction paper and glue it to the bottom of blue construction paper

Paint both hands red and press onto the construction paper with thumbs pointing up

Glue a googly eye onto each thumb

Press a cotton ball into white paint and press onto the blue paper to make clouds

 

 

Big Teeth Sharks - Sort of!!

This project was a flop. First, I ran out of blue construction paper, then my shark cutting skills were not that great.  They don't really look like sharks, but more of monsters with really large mouths.  Oh well! :)

Cut triangles all around a paper plate

Fold the paper plate in half

cut out a shark shape from construction paper - preferably blue

Glue the mouth to the shark and glue on googly eyes

Shell Plaque

I found the original idea for this project in the August 2012 issue of Family Fun Magazine.   We used sea shells and rocks instead of pebbles

Directions: Mix up the salt dough - 3 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, 1 1/4 cups of water (plus up to an additional 1/4 cup as needed). Use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat the ingredients together until a ball forms. If the mixture is still crumbly, add more water. Knead the dough until it's smooth. Divide the dough into three balls. Place each ball on a piece of foil and flatten it into a disk. Press shells (the magazine used pebbles) into the dough to create a design. Heat the oven to 275 degrees. Transfer the  and dough onto a baking sheet. Bake the plaques for 2 hours, then let them cool completely.

Flying Creatures

Cover a paper cup with a piece of blue paper - secure it with a tape or glue, and trim the edges.  Use foam circles to decorate the outside of the cup.  Glue on googly eyes and draw a mouth with marker.  Cut strips of tissue paper and tape to the inside of the cup.  Tape a long loop of ribbon at the top end of the cup so you hang it up. 

Materials Needed:  paper cup, blue construction paper, foam circles, strips of tissue paper, black marker, googly eyes, ribbon, glue, tape, scissors

Sticker Beach Scene!

Day 3 of our week. Our theme this week is the Beach. The letter of the week is E and the number of the week is 6.

Project - Sticker Beach Scene. I used brown construction paper for the beach, by cutting a curvy piece to fit the bottom of the blue construction paper. Then, I cut curvy strips of dark blue construction paper for the water. I cut cloud shapes out of white construction paper. Connor and Lauren glued the shapes onto the light blue construction paper to make a beach. Next, they used the sand castle stickers to make a beach scene. I found the stickers for $1 at Wal-Mart. They also added fish, shark, crab . . . stickers to the water. They had a great time adding stickers to their beach. Materials Needed - light blue, dark blue, brown, white construction paper, beach scene stickers, fish, sea life stickers, glue stick, scissors.

Day 2 of our week. Our theme this week is the Beach. The letter of the week is E,e and the number of the week is 6.
Project - Glitter Fish. I cut fish shapes out of green construction paper. Connor and Lauren glued the fish onto blue construction paper. They took glue and made designs on their fish. Then they sprinkled glitter on top of the fish. At the end, they glued googly eyes onto each fish!
Materials Needed - blue and green construction paper, glitter (any color), googly eyes, glue, glue stick, scissors

Egg Carton Clams!

Day 1 of our week- Our theme this week is The beach! The letter of the week is E,e and the number of the week is 6.

Project - Egg Carton Clams - I found this project in the July 2009 edition of Parents Magazine. I cut out 2 egg carton holders for each child. I taped the insides of each cup together. Connor and Lauren used pink markers to color in the mouth of lips of the clams. Then on each "clam" I squeezed vertical strips of glue. Connor and Lauren sprinkled gold glitter over the glue strips and glued on googly eyes. This is an easy fun project for any age. Connor and Lauren always have fun with glitter and glue. Materials needed- egg carton, gold glitter, glue, googly eyes, pink marker, scotch tape, scissors
