Look What's Inside an Apple

I typed and printed up the heading and the poem:

Sing to the tune:  I’m a Little Teapot

I’m a little apple, short and round. I make a munchy, crunchy sound.

If you bite into me you will see – I’m delicious as can be!

Cut out an apple shape.  Dip finger into red paint and press around the outside edge of the apple.  Color the stem brown and leaf green.  Press finger onto a black ink pad and press onto the center of the apple to make seeds.

Hand Print Apple Tree

Paint 1 hand green and press the painted hand onto white paper three times.  Paint a brown tree trunk.  When dry glue on red construction paper apples.  Add a stem and leaf to each apple.

Apple Hand Print Poem

Cut out a red apple and brown stem.  Glue the apple and stem to a piece of white paper.

Type and print out the poem:

This little apple that you just see

Was made for you just from me.

You'll never see one like it in all this land,

Because for a leaf I used my own little hand!

Paint one hand green and press onto the red apple

I found this cute poem and project here!  I changed the poem just a little bit to suit our needs.

I cut out an apple shape from red paper and added a leaf stem and white lined paper.  I had Tana practice writing her uppercase and lowercase A's

  

My Apple Book

I created this book to work on number recognition 1-5 and counting.

Seed Counting

I cut out apple shapes and glued them to a piece of construction paper.  I put the numbers 2-5 on the stem's of each apple.  

Tana read each number and used a black ink pad to make the same amount of seeds on the each apple.

Paint a white coffee filter with watercolor paint

Let dry and then wrap a chenille stem around the filter to make a stem

Mother's Day Button Flower Pots!

I bought a multi-color pack of flower pots from our local Dollar Store

The kids used buttons to make flowers on their pots to give to for Mother's Day

We even planted flowers - from seed!

 

Sponge Painted Flowers

 Cut out different colored circles from construction paper and green stems from construction paper

Glue the circles and stems onto 11 x 13 white paper.

Dip rectangular shaped sponges into paint and press onto the paper to make flowers.

 

Thumbprint Hyacinth

Cut green leaves for the stem/leaves of the flower

Glue the leaves to a piece of white paper

Use a green marker to draw the stem of the flower

Press thumb into purple paint and press onto both sides of the stem to make the hyacinth

 

Tissue Paper Flowers

Cut tissue paper into squares

Accordion fold each piece of tissue paper

Stack the pieces  and wrap a green pipe cleaner around the stack to secure them into place - The pipe cleaner will also be the stem

Fan out the pieces to make the flower

Finger print flowers

Cut a flower shape out of colored construction paper - you will need two per child

Press a finger into paint (any color) and press the finger on the petals and in the middle

When dry, tape a green pipe cleaner to the backside of one of the flowers

Glue the other flower on top, so you have two sides and the pipe cleaner is secure

 

Flower Learning Activities

How Does Your Garden Grow?

 

I typed the following:  _______, _______ (insert name two times) how does your garden grow?

I also type and printed off the number's 1-5 along with a sheet full of flowers that I then cut out

Addie glued each  number an 11 x 13 piece of construction paper

She glued the corresponding number of flowers underneath each number (she also colored each flower - pink of course!)

 

 

Flower Petal Count

 

Cut out 4 construction paper circles and multiple petals

Roll a dice.  Count the number on the dice and write it on a circle. 

Glue on the corresponding number of petals to make a flower.  Glue the completed flower to the paper!

 Beginning Sound Flower Pots!

Cut out 5 flower pots from brown construction paper.  Cut out 5 green stems and 5 flowers from different colored construction paper.
Print off different picture's - 2 for each beginning sound.  I did Q - queen and quilt, W - watch and whale, R -  reindeer and robot, H - house and helicopter, Y - yo-yo and yogurt
Assemble the pots and flowers and glue them to construction paper.
Find a pair of matching beginning sound pictures and glue teach picture to a flower pot.  Write the correct beginning letter sound on the flower.  Repeat until all of the flower pots are completed!

Easter Projects!

Here are some Easter Crafts from last year. I thought I would repost them - enjoy!

Heart Shaped Easter Bunny

Project - Heart Shape Easter Bunny. I found this Easter craft on the website http://www.first-school.ws/activities/shapes/animals/rabbit_hare_hearts.htm I printed the templates for the bunny in black and white and traced them onto colored construction paper. I cut out the pieces for Connor and Lauren. They assembled the bunny themselves. I used googly eyes for Lauren's bunny and I drew the eyes for Connor's bunny :) I made the whiskers out of thin strips of black paper. Below are the suggested steps for assembling the bunny.
1. Glue inner ears to ears. 2. Glue assembled ears to head. 3. Glue eyes as one piece 4. Glue tongue heart 5. Glue heart "cheeks" over tongue 6. Glue nose heart over "cheeks"
Materials needed - white construction paper, pink construction paper, tan or beige construction paper, googly eyes, glue, black construction paper, or pipe cleaners . . . for whiskers, scissors, templates from above website.

Handprint Cotton Ball Sheep

Project - Handprint Cotton Ball Sheep. I found this craft on the website http://www.first-school.ws/activities/crafts/animals/farm/handprint-lamb.htm First, Connor and Lauren pressed their hands in black paint and pressed them on a piece of cardstock. Then, I printed the sheep template off of the above website. Connor and Lauren colored the face of the sheep with markers. Then they glued cotton balls onto the sheep body. After the handprint paint dried Connor and Lauren glued the sheep body on the palm of the handprint.
Materials needed -cardstock, sheep template, cotton balls, markers, black paint and glue.

Handprint Bunny Poem!

. m Project - Handprint Bunny poem. I am not sure where I found this idea, but I had the poem filed away in my craft folder. I typed the poem on the computer and printed it out. Connor and Lauren then pressed their hand into paint - I used a pastel green - Then they signed their name. After the paint dried, I drew bunny faces and ears on each finger. This craft makes great Easter cards, or presents for Grandparents. Materials needed - paint, fine-tip markers, poem, paper.

Here is the poem:

Five little Easter bunnies sitting in a row;

They are made of my very own fingerprints, you know.

Five little Easter bunnies are hopping to say,

Love and kisses from me on this happy Easter day.

Farm Unit!

Our Theme is the Farm!Project Handprint Rooster - I found the idea for this project on the website http://www.first-school.ws/theme/animals.htm under the animal link and then the bird link. This site even provides templates for you to print, but it is an easy project to do without a template. Materials needed: white card stock or paper, red paper, yellow paper, large Popsicle sticks, glue and googly eyes.
I traced Connor and Lauren's hands on red card stock (for the wattle and crest) and cut them out. I cut out two small triangles for the beak on yellow card stock. (The template provides the triangle and circle) I cut out the circle head on white card stock. Connor and Lauren glued one of their hand prints on the top of the circular head and the other on the bottom of the head. Then they glued the yellow triangles on the side of the head and finished it off by gluing on a googly eye. Finally, I helped them glue their rooster head to the large Popsicle stick. They had fun doing puppet shows with their rooster.

Project - Farm Animal Counting - I created a grid style sheet with the numbers 1-5 on the edge of each row. I printed off pictures of farm animals and cut them to fit the squares of the sheet. Connor and Lauren then had count the farm animals and glue them in the matching row. This activity emphasizes counting, one-to-one correspondence. I adapted this activity from the website http://www.pre-kpages.com/farm.html

Project - Farm Animal Poem - I created a sheet with farm clip art a border and the poem I am a ______(type of farm animal) I can ______ (movement) I can________(sound) I feel________(texture) I smell______(scent) I am_______(emotion) I am a ______(animal again). Then Connor and Lauren drew a picture of their animal on the top half of the sheet. I got this idea from the website http://www.prekinders.com/farmunit.htm under the link for the themes/farm.







Project Old MacDonald Farm Animal Book! - I created a Cover for the book by finding a clip-art picture of a barn. I printed it as a full sheet and glued to a piece of construction paper. Then I made the pages to the book by adding farm clip-art a border and typing the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" leaving out the animal name and the animal sounds. I let Connor and Lauren choose their animals each day (We did 1 page each day for a total of 3 pages in the book). Then at the bottom of each page underneath the song, they drew a picture of their animal. At the end of the week. I added a back piece of construction paper and I stapled all of the pages together to make a book! Connor and Lauren loved reading and looking at their books! Project Farm Counting Book- I created pages for this farm animal counting book and then glued them onto construction paper and stapled the book together. The title of the book was On the Farm. The first page said, I see _____ cow on the farm. The second page said, I see _____ turkeys on the farm. The third page said, I see _____ pigs on the farm. The fourth page said, I see _____ sheep on the farm. The fifth page said, I see _____ ducks on the farm. I printed out clip-art farm animals and the kids had to count each animal and write the number of each animal on the appropriate line and paste the animals on the page. This activity emphasized counting, one-to-one correspondence and number writing. I adapted this activity from the website http://www.pre-kpages.com/farm.html

Project Paper Plate Pig Face- Connor and Lauren loved this project. Materials needed: 2 paper plates (1 large- for the body, 1 small-for the head (or cut one of the plates smaller), light pink construction paper or card stock -for the nose and ears, pink paint Black permanent marker, pink pipe cleaner.

Connor and Lauren painted both the regular and small paper plates pink. When the paint was dry they glued the small plate in the middle of the larger plate. I cut out a small pink circle out of paper along with triangle ears. They then glued the small pink paper circle for the nose to the middle of the small plate. They added eyes, nostrils and a mouth with a black marker. Finally, they glued on pink paper triangles for the ears. I curled the pink pipe cleaner for the tail and punched a hole in the top of the larger paper plate to thread the tail through. I let the kids choose where they wanted the tail to go!! I got the idea for this project from the website http://www.pre-kpages.com/farm.html under the farm theme link.

Farm Animal Patterns! - I printed out farm animal clip-art and started patterns on a piece of construction paper. Then I had Connor and Lauren finish the patterns gluing the correct farm animals on the piece of paper. We just started doing patterns, so it is an ongoing learning activity.

Project Bean Farm Scene- Connor and Lauren drew a farm scene on a piece of cardstock. Then I traced over their drawings with White Elmers glue and they placed beans on the glue. The beans outlined their drawings. They loved drawing their pictures and watching them "pop" with the beans. Materials needed- cardstock or heavy construction paper, markers, Elmers glue or craft glue, beans or seeds.




Project Paper Plate Duck- Connor and Lauren made a paper plate duck which incorporated their handprints! I got this idea from the website http://www.first-school.ws/theme/animals.htm This site has templates you can use. I used a paper plate that Connor and Lauren painted yellow. I drew my own beak and feet and traced Connor and Lauren's hands. Materials needed - paper plate, yellow construction paper, orange construction paper, yellow paint, googly eyes, glue and a stapler (the above website has templates for the beak, feet and head).
Directions:
Connor and Lauren painted a paper plate yellow.
Then, I folded the paper plate in half so the color showed on both sides.
I drew feet and a beak on orange construction paper and a round head on yellow construction paper and I traced their hands yellow construction paper and cut every piece out. The website has templates you can use. I folded the middle part of the feet up into the folded plate and stapled. Connor and Lauren glued the folded beak piece onto the head piece. Then they glued large googly eyes onto the head above the beak. Then Connor and Lauren glued the head on the side top corner of the body(the plate). Finally, I took their traced handprints and stapled them to the other top corner (for the feathers)!
