Paper Plate Cow!

Cut a circle out of pink paper.  Draw on nostrils and a mouth.  Cut out horns and ears and glue them to the plate.  Draw eyes and black spots.

Paper Plate Rooster!

Trace hand on red craft foam and cut it out.  Glue the hand to the top of the plate.  Cut 2 oval eyes from black craft foam, a beak from yellow craft foam and a  "gobbler" (that is what I call them!!)  out of red craft foam.  Glue all of the pieces to the Paper Plate.

Pigs in the Mud!

 

I drew a pig template onto pink construction paper and cut it out.  We glued on a pink button nose, a twisted pink pipe cleaner and drew on two black eyes.  The 3 younger ones glued their pig onto a piece of "mud" (brown construction paper that I had cut into a "mud" shape)

Addie glued her pig to the "mud" too.  We added a lined piece of writing paper so she could write about her pig.

Oatmeal Canister Barn!

We covered an oatmeal canister with red construction paper.  You could paint the canister too.  Addie used white paint to make a door and window.  We made a cone shape for the top and attached it with tape.

I printed a cow, pig and sheep from my computer and Addie wrote her numbers 1-12 onto each farm animal.  I cut the animals out and Addie glued the animals in number order onto the strip of paper. 

Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Draw or glue a red barn onto a brown lunch bag - I only had 2 greeting card bags and I was out of red construction paper!!  Cut out a white rectangle for the barn door and two, white squares for the window.  Use black marker to draw the details for the door and windows.  On separate pieces of card stock attach farm animal pictures and write the sounds  they make.  Place the cards in the "barn" bag.  Sing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm"  Choose a farm animal out of the bag for each verse!

 

 

The Friendly Beasts Handprints

My Church School class is performing The Friendly Beasts for their part in the youth Christmas program this year.  I had my 5 youngest students use their handprints to represent the animals in The Friendly Beasts song.  I printed off words to go above each animal.

 

I am the donkey shaggy and brown, who carried Mary to Bethlehem town.

I am the sheep with the curly horn, who gave him my wool for a blanket warm.

 

 

We used an open handprint for the dove.  We should have used a closed hand with the thumb pressed out!



I am the dove from the rafters high, who cooed him to sleep my mate and I.

I am the cow all white and red, who gave him my manger for his bed.

 

 

Pink-Pig Puppet!

This is such a cute, easy project to do with any age.  First paint a large craft stick pink - let dry.  Then glue on googly eyes, a pink button nose and two pink, felt ears.  Draw eyebrows with a black, permanent marker and you are done.  This wonderful idea is borrowed from makeandtakes.com

Hand Print Chicken

Here is another cute project from funhandprintart.blogspot.com  This chicken handprint was so easy and cute.  Tana, Addie, Ty and Chase did this project.  They added a head to the handprint along with the eyes, beak and feet!

Pig Footprint

I read Three Little Pigs to the kids and then we made this adorable pig project!  I saw this cute footprint at Funhandprintart.blogspot.com   There are great foot and handprint crafts on her site - check it out!!  She even featured my rooster handprint from a couple of years back.  This pig was fun to make - the kids love having their feet painted!

Cock-a-Moo-Moo and Rooster Finger Puppets!

Day 2 of the week-The theme this week is Books! The letters of the week are x, Y, y. Learning Activity- I read the book Cock-a-Moo-Moo by Juliet Dallas-Conte', to Connor and Lauren. I cut a barn shape out of red construction paper and wrote - I am proud like rooster because . . . I can _____________. Connor and Lauren filled in the blank with something that they can do that they are proud of. Connor is proud that he can eat pizza big (this has been an ongoing power struggle in our house that was finally conquered!!) Lauren is proud that she can zip her coat. Then they both drew pictures of their statements. Again, they both wrote their own sentences - I am so proud of their writing and letter formation!! Source - Mailbox Magazine June/July 2008

Project - Rooster Finger Puppets -We received a finger puppet making kit at Christmas from my mom and dad. The kids have been wanting to make finger puppets for a long time,but we kept on forgetting to make them. Today we remembered and we made rooster finger puppets. They turned out ok - the kit really didn't have many options - we used our own feathers to complete the rooster!

Day 4 of the week. Our Theme this week is The Farm! This weeks posts are re posts from last year. You can check out all of the Farm unit projects/learning activities under the Farm label! The Farm post was only my second post and I was still playing with what kind of format/style I wanted to use, so I just made one large post for two weeks worth of crafts/learning activities. This is why I thought I would redo the farm crafts in separate posts this week.
Project- Paper Plate Duck- Connor and Lauren made a paper plate duck which incorporated their handprints! I got this idea from the website
http://www.first-school.ws/theme/animals.htm This site has templates you can use. I used a paper plate that Connor and Lauren painted yellow. I drew my own beak and feet and traced Connor and Lauren's hands. Materials needed - paper plate, yellow construction paper, orange construction paper, yellow paint, googly eyes, glue and a stapler (the above website has templates for the beak, feet and head).

Directions: Connor and Lauren painted a paper plate yellow. Then, I folded the paper plate in half so the color showed on both sides. I drew feet and a beak on orange construction paper and a round head on yellow construction paper and I traced their hands yellow construction paper and cut every piece out. The website has templates you can use. I folded the middle part of the feet up into the folded plate and stapled. Connor and Lauren glued the folded beak piece onto the head piece. Then they glued large googly eyes onto the head above the beak. Then Connor and Lauren glued the head on the side top corner of the body(the plate). Finally, I took their traced handprints and stapled them to the other top corner (for the feathers)!

Project Paper Plate Pig - Connor and Lauren loved this project. Materials needed: 2 paper plates (1 large- for the body, 1 small-for the head (or cut one of the plates smaller), light pink construction paper or card stock -for the nose and ears, pink paint Black permanent marker, pink pipe cleaner.

Directions:Connor and Lauren painted both the regular and small paper plates pink. When the paint was dry they glued the small plate in the middle of the larger plate. I cut out a small pink circle out of paper along with triangle ears. They then glued the small pink paper circle for the nose to the middle of the small plate. They added eyes, nostrils and a mouth with a black marker. Finally, they glued on pink paper triangles for the ears. I curled the pink pipe cleaner for the tail and punched a hole in the top of the larger paper plate to thread the tail through. I let the kids choose where they wanted the tail to go!! Project Hand print Rooster Puppet - I found the idea for this project on the website http://www.first-school.ws/theme/animals.htm under the animal link and then the bird link. This site even provides templates for you to print, but it is an easy project to do without a template. Materials needed: white card stock or paper, red paper, yellow paper, large Popsicle sticks, glue and googly eyes.

Directions:I traced Connor and Lauren's hands on red card stock (for the wattle and crest) and cut them out. I cut out two small triangles for the beak on yellow card stock. (The template provides the triangle and circle) I cut out the circle head on white card stock. Connor and Lauren glued one of their hand prints on the top of the circular head and the other on the bottom of the head. Then they glued the yellow triangles on the side of the head and finished it off by gluing on a googly eye. Finally, I helped them glue their rooster head to the large Popsicle stick. They had fun doing puppet shows with their rooster.
