Projects
Circle Handprint Turkey
Cut out a larger circle from brown construction paper and a smaller circle from tan construction paper
Cut out an orange beak and feet, and a red "gobbler"
Paint a hands with different colored paint and press around the paper
Let dry and assemble the turkey - adding googly eyes
Glue the turkey in the middle of the hand prints
Cut around the turkey

 

Turkey Clothespin

Glue on googly eyes and an orange bead - for the beak

Place a small amount of  glue in the clothespin and stick 3-4 feather in the opening

 

 Paper Plate Name Turkey

Cut a brown body and an orange beak and different colored feathers -enough for each child's name

Directions:

Color a small paper plate brown

Glue the body onto the plate

Glue the beak onto the turkey and draw on eyes

Glue the feathers to the back of the plate

Write your name on the feathers - 1 letter on each feather

 

Plastic Egg Turkey

Cut a beak and gobbler from yellow and red felt

Directions:

Glue a matching color pom pom on one half of a plastic Easter egg

Glue on the felt beak, "gobbler" and eyes

On the back, glue on 4-5 feathers

 

Tissue Paper Turkey

Cut a paper plate in half

Cut pieces of colored tissue paper into squares

Cut a circle from brown, craft foam, a triangle and feet from orange craft foam, and a "gobbler" from read craft foam

Directions:

Assemble the turkey

Glue the tissue paper squares around the edge of the 1/2 paper plate

Staple the assembled turkey to the plate

 

Pumpkin Pie Magnet

Trace the lid from an old soup can onto orange craft foam -make sure the lid doesn't have sharp edges.

Cut a triangle out from the orange circle.

Directions:

Glue the orange craft foam to the inside of the lid

Hot glue on a tan chenille stem - this is the pie's crust

Cut a square from a white coffee filter and accordion fold it.  Glue it on top of the pie!

Attach a magnet to the back.

 

 

Learning Activities

 Counting Feathers

Skills:  Math - number recognition, counting, one-to-one correspondence

Cut out "turkeys" from brown construction paper and draw on eyes and beaks

Write 1 number on each turkey along with the corresponding number of dots

Cut out different colored feathers from construction paper

Glue the turkeys to construction paper (leave a gap at the top, so you are able to add feathers later)

Directions: 

Say the number and count out feathers to match the number.  Glue the correct amount of feathers to the matching turkey.

I created this activity and printed it off for Addie to complete.

I cut out the feathers for her and then she put them in order!

Turkey Magnets!

Trace a soup can lid onto brown, craft foam and cut it out.  Glue the foam circle to the lid.  Glue craft feathers to the back of the lid.  Glue on googly eyes, orange, chenille stem beak and red, chenille stem gobbler!  Add a magnet to the back!  So simple and cute!

Material Needed:  soup can lid, brown craft foam, glue, scissors, craft feathers, orange and red chenille stems, googly eyes

Button Magnets!

Day 2 of the week. The theme this week is Buttons!

Project - Button Magnets. Here is a fun and easy project for your preschooler! We glued cut-up pieces of tissue to soup can lids and then applied a thin layer of Mod Podge. Then we took buttons and pressed them on the wet Mod Podge to dry. After the Mod Podge layer was dry we glued a magnet to the back of each lid. Materials Needed - soup can lids, tissue paper, glue stick, Mod Podge, paint brushes, magnets, craft glue, buttons

Handprint Magnets

Day 1 of our week - Our theme this week is School. Connor and Lauren are starting preschool next week, so I thought we should do some back to school themed projects this week. The letter of the week is I, i and the number of the week is 2.


Project - Handprint Magnets - I thought this was an appropriate project for the kids to do, so they have someway of displaying the things they come home with from preschool.
Connor and Lauren covered their hands in paint. Then they pressed their hands onto colored construction paper. After the paint was dry, I wrote their name on one hand print and the word art on the other handprint. Then I cut around the hand prints and laminated them. Finally, I glued a magnet on the back of the laminated hand prints, so they can be placed on the refrigerator. These hand prints will act as display magnets for Connor and Lauren's projects/art from preschool. Materials Needed - paint, construction paper, permanent marker, scissors, laminating sheets (optional), magnets

Dad Picture Magnet and Buoyant Foam Starfish!

Day 3 of our Week - Our themes are Fathers Day and the Ocean.

Foam Dad Magnetic Pictures!

Project - Foam DAD magnetic pictures. I wrote "DAD" in bubble letters on a template and traced it onto foam pieces. I cut "DAD" out along with the insides of the letters. Then Connor, Lauren and I chose pictures to put in the middle of the cut outs. They helped me arrange and glue the pictures. Then I hot glued 2 magnets on the back of the project. Materials needed - Craft foam, scissors, craft glue, magnets, pictures!

Foam Starfish!

Project - Buoyant Starfish. Connor and Lauren love their octopus' from the other day, so they wanted to make another ocean creature. They both chose starfish this time. You can find the template on the website www.FamilyFun.com/magazine I traced the template onto yellow foam. Connor and Lauren glued googly eyes onto the starfish and they drew a smile onto their starfish. Finally, I hot glued a cork to the back. Material needed- yellow craft foam, googly eyes, cork, black permanent marker, hot glue gun.

Buyoant Dolphin

Project - Buoyant Dolphin. Connor made this dolphin earlier this year. It is just like the starfish above and the octopus from the previous post. Again, you can find all of the templates and directions for this neat project on the website www.FamilyFun.com/magazine under Buoyant Buddies. Connor plays with them in the bathtub and they hold up really well!
