Pom Pom Frog and Rock Frog!

Pom Pom Frog and Rock Frog!

***This is a project that we did back in July of 2009. I was looking at my older posts and I came across this one. The frogs were easy to make, so cute and fun, so I thought I would post this project again. Lauren especially loved her little frogs!

Day 3 of our Week - Our theme this week is Ponds! Our letter of the week is the letter B, and the numbers of the week are 7 and 8 and 0-10.

Project - Pom pom frog. I traced a top from a soup can onto green foam and cut a triangle shape out of it. Then Connor and Lauren glued 1 large green pom pom onto the lily pad with hot glue ( I helped). Then they glued 2 googly eyes onto 2 small green pom poms with hot glue. Then they glued the two pom poms onto the large green pom pom to finish the project! Materials needed - green foam, 1 large green pom pom, 2 small green pom poms, 2 googly eyes, scissors, hot glue or craft glue.

Project - Rock Frog. Connor and Laurent found two smooth rocks by our driveway. They painted their rock green and let dry. Then I drew a frog body onto green foam (2 front legs, and 2 hind legs). After the painted rock was dry, Connor and Lauren used the hot glue gun to glue on googly eyes. (I helped) Then, they glued the rock to the foam from body and the project was done!! Very simple, but fun. They wanted to make more. Materials needed - smooth rock, googly eyes, green craft foam, scissors, green paint, paintbrush, hot glue or craft glue.

2. The concept longest - Recognition and following directions

3. The letter C,c - Writing the letter C,c.

4. Shape - triangle - Tracing and recognizing.

I always do letter/number reviews and they always write their names.

How Many Frogs?

Project/Learning Activtivity - I found the above Frog counting activity book on the website http://thevirtualvine.com/frogs.html under the heading/link How Many Frogs Counting book (numbers). I printed off the book and Connor and Lauren read the numbers on each page and colored the frogs according to the color word. At the end of the book, I had Connor and Lauren write their numbers 1-5 under each frog! I am also using the website http://www.prekinders.com/pondlifeunit.htm

Today's activities
1. The number 9 and 0-10 - number recognition, counting objects, following directions
2. The concepts biggest and smallest - Recognition and following directions
3. The letter B, b - Writing the letter B, b.
4. Shape - Rectangle - Tracing and recognizing.
I always do letter/number reviews and they always write their names.

Project - Pocket Plate Frog - I found the idea for this project on the website, http://www.dltk-kids.com/animals/mfrogpouch.html I cut a Styrofoam plate in half and stapled it to the back side of another Styrofoam plate. Then Connor painted the plates and we let them dry. I traced the eye, legs and tongue template (provided by the website) onto green, white and red construction paper. Connor glued the inner (white) eyes onto the green circles and used a black marker to draw the inner eyes. After, the plates were dried, he glued the legs, eyes and tongue onto the plates to make a frog. *I stapled the bottom legs to the back side of the plate instead of using glue. The end project has a pocket or pouch. Connor is really having fun placing his "paper treasures" into the pouch! Materials needed - 1 full Styrofoam plate, 1 Styrofoam plate cut in half, green paint, paintbrush, green, red, white construction paper, black marker, stapler, craft glue, scissors, leg, tongue, eye templates (from the website, or draw your own).

Additional Learning Activity - Writing numbers and ordering numbers.

Connor and Lauren wrote the numbers 1-10 in the boxes below the original numbers. Then they cut their written numbers out and glued them in sequence onto a piece of construction paper. I attached the original row/grid of numbers to their sequenced numbers. I found the template for this activity from the website http://thevirtualvine.com/frogs.html It is called number practice printable.

Project - Paper Frog Puppets!

I found the idea for this project from the website http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/frog First, I folded a green piece of construction into thirds, to form a long rectangle. Then, I folded the long rectangle into fourths, to form a w. The W is the frog! Then, Connor and Lauren glued googly eyes onto the top fourth and added the red tongue I had cut out from red construction paper. All of the directions are on the above website. This is a very simple craft to do, with very little prep work. It was a perfect project for today - we were at a birthday party all morning, so we had to do our "school" after nap time!!

Materials Needed - green construction paper, red construction paper, googly eyes, glue, scissors.
